LANGUAGE POLICY
Kayseri University is a public university which separated from Erciyes University and founded on May 18, 2018. There are 4 faculties, 1 institute and 11 vocational schools in our university. Currently, the units such as substructure and campus are shared with Erciyes University. Our language support policy correlates with Erciyes University. For this reason and since we do not currently have a Foreign Languages Department, until Kayseri University constitutes a Foreign Languages Department, we will carry on our courses with Erciyes University’s educational supports.
Kayseri University aims to support continuous language development, focusing on transition phases: from beginner to intermediate and to professional training. The emphasis is on providing continuous language development and support by developing local or regional language development planning, bringing together language development at school environments. Kayseri University is committed to ensuring that all students are provided with sufficient Turkish language support and development opportunities both within the curriculum and in support of the curriculum. For incoming students and staff, before their arrival they are assigned to a mentor who assists them with cultural/academic problems. Turkish courses will be organized for those who wish to learn Turkish. Thus students and staff, who do not have any prior knowledge of Turkish, can take part on these courses.
In countries where English has been taught and learnt as a foreign language, Language Support Policy has great importance. For outbound students English Proficiency Exam is organized by Kayseri University International Office. The schedule and the content of the exam are announced in the International Office webpage. The exam is formed at two stages. First stage assesses oral knowledge, second stage assesses written knowledge. Outbound academic and administrative staff may use official certificates which reveals their language knowledge. Through these certificates the established committee can see if the candidates have the ability to adapt in a foreign country.
For incoming students and staff an orientation program is organized. Before the student arrives they are assigned a mentor that assists them with cultural/academic problems. The International Relations Office offers a special Turkish Language Course for incoming students free of charge. The students, who wish to learn and improve their Turkish language skills, have the opportunity to study by attending to these courses.
